Reunion Registration Information

February 1, 2009

Hillcrest High School
20-year Class Reunion
P.O. Box 115
Ballentine, SC 29002

Dear Alumni and Friends:

Can you believe it has been 20 years since we walked across the stage at the Exhibition Center and accepted our diplomas? The reunion planning committee has been working hard to organize a 20-year class reunion that will be even better than our 10-year reunion. We hope this letter finds everyone doing well and getting excited for our reunion.

The festivities will be held July 17-19, 2009, in Sumter. The cost for the reunion will be $40 for individuals and $60 for family/couples. T-shirts are $5 and a DVD of the picnic and banquet are $10. If you would like to purchase one of these items, please add the applicable cost in with your cost of the reunion to ensure we order what we need. (Example: Von pays $60 for family, $10 for the DVD and $5 for t-shirt, total amount paid is $75). This cost will cover your entire weekend of fun and entertainment. There are three ways that you can pay: send a cashier’s check or money order to the address above or you can pay with cash to one of the committee members. Receipts will be given at the drop-in. Whichever option you choose, we need all monies paid in full by June 1, 2009.

20-Year Class Reunion
Meeting

Date: August 24, 2008
Time: 3 pm
Place: Fatz Café (Camden, SC)
Attendees: Patti Haun, Michelle Long, William Sumpter, Hester McLeod, Sharon Gordon, Angela Dennis, Bryant Wiley and Von Osborne

Topic: Food, entertainment, fundraisers and activities for the 20-year reunion.

Friday July 17th – Drop-in at Hillcrest High School with light hors d’oeuvres provided by the committee. It will be held from 6pm to 8pm. We will have the movie playing in the background as we socialize with each other. William will check the dates with the school district and see if they will allow us to use their projector and screen.

Saturday July 18th – Barbeque to be held at Shaw AFB from 11 am – 4 pm. Menu: hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, ribs and pork chops, baked beans, potato salad, dirty rice, corn-on-the-cob and pasta salad, variety of drinks. I will check with Lance to see if Pepsi would be willing to donate the drinks. The committee will prepare food and the RSVP invitations will include verbiage for attendants to bring a covered dish as well.

Banquet – we are still looking into the best place to have this. Catchall Lodge will cost $450 plus catering fees (Shawn Singleton’s mom). Sharon is checking the price to have the banquet at the NCO club again. We will discuss at the next meeting and finalize the location for this event. Howard Austin (Howie) has agreed to DJ the event for $350 from 9pm – 2 am. This was the most affordable price, which is half of what he normally charges for something like this. Thanks for the discount Howie! J

Sunday July 19th – We will attend High Hills AME church under the direction of guest pastor our very own Shawn Singleton in the flesh! We will conclude the weekend event with dinner at Ryan’s in Sumter.

Tentative Fee Schedule:
$40 per single or $60 per family for admittance to all events. There will be NO price reductions if you can’t attend all activities. THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE ITEMS INCLUDED SUCH COMMORATIVE DVD’S AND T-SHIRTS.

THEME: HILLCREST CLASS OF 89
STILL GOING (a picture of the Energizer bunny with a tiger’s head (wildcat). Sharon is working on a demo shirt and designs for viewing before finalization. Suggestion is to include the names of our graduating class on the back. Sharon let us know how much extra this would be.

Committees needed:
Commemorative DVD to include a tribute to our fallen classmates (bereavement) – this committee will be in charge of memorializing our fallen classmates with flowers, pictures and fondest memories. (Sharon and Michelle will work on this). Please post on the MySpace and the blog created by Michelle, to send pictures (before and after/then and now) and solicit more help.

Videographer: Evans Video (father of the late Sylvester Dawson) The cost of this service is $500, which includes 40 DVD’s. Any additional DVD’s will be a minimum of $9. Orders and money for this will be taken at the banquet. Suggestion: I think the 1st 20 to 30 people (FAITHFUL committee members automatically get one) to send in their money will receive this as a token. Orders and money can be taken during the weekend activities and mailed after the reunion.

Photographer: Nick Jenkins – has agreed to provide this service. At our next meeting we will have a preview of a reunion album and different package prices. He is willing to provide basically what we want. Thanks William!

Fundraisers: Raffle tickets, selling dinners, car wash to begin in March, and agendas (businesses would pay to advertise their service). We need to start cracking on this to generate start-up money.

Things to do:

Von will set up the bank account and tax id information. I need a volunteer that will be listed on the account with me. We will be in charge of all flow of monies. If you purchase something in relation to the reunion please ASK for permission before you do anything to ensure that we will be able to reimburse you.

One the above is set-up, Angie Dennis will set-up a post office box.

Next meeting will be October 19, 2008 at Fatz Café in Camden at 3pm. This may be subject to change to a location in Columbia. I will let you know at least 2 weeks in advance.

We accomplished a lot at this meeting, now its time to GET TO WORK. Thanks to all that were able to attend and even those who were unable due to prior engagements. I hope to see you all at the above meeting.
.GO WILDCATS!

Hillcrest High School c/o '89 Reunion - 1st Planning Meeting Minutes

20 Year Class Reunion
Meeting

Date: July 13, 2008
Time: 2 pm
Place: Fatz Café (Camden, SC)
Attendees: Diann Baldwin, Sabrina Moore, William Sumpter, Marie Grady and Von Osborne

Topic: When, where and what activities we would like to have at the 20-year reunion.

As a group we have decided to have the reunion on the 3rd weekend of July 2009, which is the 17th – 19th. There has been talk of us having our reunion on a cruise, but we didn’t think this was feasible considering those with large families and those that live out of state. We have decided to do as we did for the 10-year reunion with a few extras.

Our next meeting is August 24, 2008 at Fatz Café in Camden (on Hwy 521) @ 3 pm. At this time we will finalize the place to have the banquet (Catchall Lodge, Swan Lake or Shaw AFB). We will have confirmation and a reservation made for the DJ, photographer and videographer.

Tentative Events:
Friday – Drop-in at Hillcrest Middle School (light refreshments will be served)
Saturday – Barbeque including children and spouses (location TBD) from 12 pm – 4 pm
Banquet (location TBD) 9 pm – 2 am. Adults only
Sunday – Church at High Hills AME with our very own Pastor Shawn Singleton preaching the Gospel followed by dinner (location TBD).

Tentative Fee Schedule:
$40 per single or $60 per family for admittance to all events. There will be NO price reductions if you can’t attend all activities.

Committees needed:
Bereavement – this committee will be in charge of memorializing our fallen classmates with flowers, pictures and fondest memories.
Memory Book – this committee will be in charge of putting together a collage of pictures (before and after/then and now).
Food – assistance with preparing the food and drinks for the barbeque.
T-shirt – responsible for design, color and slogan.
Fundraisers – carwash and dinner sales. We need ALL the help we can get on this. Locations TBD. For the 10-year reunion we had approximately 5 dedicated people for the entire weekend of activities. Just like Uncle Sam said it, “WE WANT U”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE
